About Us

Dr. Jill Sonner

Dr. Sonner was born and raised in Raleigh, NC. She attended UNC Wilmington and North Carolina State University. She received her undergraduate degree from NCSU in 1999 with high honors, obtaining a BS in Biological Sciences. During college, she supported research staff at NIEHS and performed an independent study focusing on Diabetes.

She is also a graduate of UNC Dental School. She continued her dental education following dental school by attending a residency program at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. Here she gained skill in treating medically compromised and geriatric patients, as well as learned advanced surgery techniques and surgical implant placement. Dr. Sonner obtained a Fellowship with the International Dental Implant Association under the direction of Dr. Arun Garg, who is world-renowned for his program. Dr. Sonner focuses her treatments on the full restoration of chewing function. Since her training has been geared towards esthetics, both with veneers and partials/dentures, she offers many implant options for all patients to feel complete with a confident and functional smile.

In addition to the practice of dentistry, Dr. Sonner devotes much of her time to service for dentistry. She has served on her local dental society board as president in previous years. In addition, she served on the Eastern Community Advisory Board for Medical Security and PACE chairwoman for the Academy of General Dentistry, and she continues to be involved with many legislative issues relating to dentists and the care of patients in our state.

She is also passionate about the elderly and elder care. Both of Dr. Sonner’s parents have suffered from strokes and lived with deficiencies since. She understands how much is involved when caring for aging parents and is compassionate about ensuring their dental needs are met in whatever capacity. Dr. Sonner strongly believes in helping our elderly keep their chewing function to protect their need for optimum nutrition and food choices as they age. She enjoys fabricating oral prosthetics when patients have lost their teeth, and she also offers alternative options to help patients keep their teeth as long as possible.

Her father was a national championship swimmer, named All-American while at NCSU in 1956, and was an assistant coach under Willis Casey. Our local Raleigh Swim Association (RSA), founded by her father William Sonner, named its new year-round training facility Sonner Aquatic after him. Dr Sonner’s two kids participate in their year-round swimming program.

Dr. Sonner is married to Jonathan Boling, who works for SAS. They have two children, Luke and Libby. She is very close to her two older brothers. The oldest resides in New Orleans, LA, with his partner of 10 years and owns his own architectural firm. The second oldest owns and operates a cattle and truffle farm in Pittsboro, NC, with his wife and son.
